Hello!
Welcome to my about page. Here is where I’ve written everything there is to know about me, the amazing awesome Milla Miller. I’m a student at John Abbott College hoping to enter the Montreal Graphic Design Community.

About Me
Hello, my name is Milla Miller. Right now I am currently a student at John Abbott College. I am studying to become a graphic designer, and I am in my second year. I love John Abbott and living in Saint Anne de Bellevue, but I am originally from Iowa in the United States.
My Interests – Besides Graphic Design of Course

Music
I really love listening to music and going to concerts. I used to play piano and flute in high school. I write lyrics sometimes and submit them to competitions but so far I haven’t won any major awards.

Art
I like to draw, paint, write, make pottery, do some amateur photography, and do graphic design. Art has been a passion of mine since before I could even talk.

My Dog
I love my dog like a little sister. Her name is Ginger and she is 11 years old. I miss her so so so much. Sadly, she couldn’t come with me when I moved.

My Past
I was born in a little town in Iowa twenty years ago. For the majority of my life, I’ve been surrounded by corn fields and tornadoes. The nature is unmatched but I felt trapped. I needed a place filled with busy city life and boundless opportunities. I ended up meeting a friend online who showed me how amazing Montreal was. I visited a few times by plane and I fell in love with this beautiful city.
I did one year of college at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. In high school, I was actually thinking about going into dental assisting. But I figured out that even though I was one of the top students, it wasn’t what I was truly passionate about. I felt like it was a safe choice, but I didn’t quite fit in.

An abstract painting I did inspired by dawn and sundown.
Becoming a Montrealer
My experience at Kirkwood helped figure out where I wanted to go. At this college, I was spending a lot of money for something I knew wasn’t preparing me for an actual career. I don’t regret spending a year here before uprooting my life and moving to Montreal, thousands of miles away from home. It helped me see that Iowa was too small for me. GWD has given me so much more world-applicable skills that I can use in my career. Sometimes, I feel more at home in Montreal than I did in Iowa.

A promotional poster I made for my group’s Heineken campaign concept. This was one of my first big projects using Adobe Photoshop and in graphic design in general.
My Heineken Experience – Graphic Design Beginnings
During the summer of 2025, I did a two-week study abroad in Scotland and helped my team compete against other teams in a branding competition for Heineken. Unfortunately, I don’t like the taste of Heineken beer. But we won second place!

My Present
My skills in time management and working efficiently have helped me be active member in my community and work part-time. Right now at John Abbott College I am involved in the arts and literature magazine called Locus. I was nominated the vice president position this semester, and I also am involved in SUJAC, JAC’s student union. Last year, I was a part of many clubs. I joined the Rotaract club, which is a club for volunteering.
Right now, my french language skills are still improving. I’ve taken steps to get extra help outside of my french courses like a tutor, taking extra classes in my free time, surrounding myself with friends who force me to converse in french, and much more like studying when I am able to.

My Future – Montreal Graphic Design
Studying graphic and web design at John Abbott has broadened my love for art and made me feel confident in my skills. I feel inspired by working with my classmates and completing challenging projects. Tight deadlines don’t scare me, they ignite a passionate fire within me that heats my creative motivation.
I intend to remain in the Montreal area after I have completed my studies. I love the city and the urban setting. I hope to one day work for a company or start my own freelance business with many clients. I love collaborating with other people in teams, but I also enjoy working on solo projects because I have lots of freedom. Personally, I am interested in poster and book cover design, but over the time of last year and this semester I’ve become more interested in branding and logo development.
Being a part of the Montreal graphic design community so far has already made me feel appreciative of my skills. This city is a special place that is always moving and growing. I like the idea of working for a stable, inviting, and innovative company while getting to explore my environment around me. Graphic design in Montreal is something special because it’s always evolving and surprising you with new ways to communicate ideas and events. And I hope to join in on the fun as soon as I can!
